Message in a Plastic Bottle..

Recycled Pacific Island

Plans have been revealed for a new island in the North Pacific Gyre which could accommodate up to half a million people. Netherlands-based firm WHIM Architecture has designed the floating island to be manufactured out of 44,000 tonnes of waste plastic currently drifting on our seas, turning an environmental hazard on its head to create a fully sustainable, self-sufficient island the size of Hawaii.

UTS to build a Frank Gehry icon

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) (and QUT’s fellow in the Australian Technology Network of universities) has announced that world renowned architect Frank Gehry is to design a landmark building for the uni as part of its City Campus Master Plan.

Celebrate Library and Information Week with the Espresso Librarian!

During 24-30 May we are celebrating Library and Information Week by making QUT Library more accessible.

Expect to see librarians out and about in your favourite coffee spots on campus.

Drop by for a consultation during Library and Information week and get a free coffee at Artisans, GP,  Monday – Friday between 10:00am – 11:30am.

There will be signage indicating the librarian’s presence.

Reconciliation week at QUT: 27 May – 3 June 2010

All QUT staff and students are invited to participate in this year’s Reconciliation Week activities. The University, the QUT Student Guild and community organisations, Link-Up and ANTaR (Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation), will be conducting a range of activities.

Awareness raising activities will be held on each campus. These will include information stalls, ‘Sea of Hands’ activities, entertainment and more. All students and staff are encouraged to come and join in the activities.
