Sustainable House Day 2009

On Sunday the 13th of September, approximately 170 homes around Australia will open their doors to the public for this year’s Sustainable House Day.

For the first time, homes will open for free, thanks to the support of the Australian Government. Sustainable House Day gives people the opportunity to get a look inside real houses that have been designed, built or fitted out with sustainability in mind.

People will be able to talk to the house owners, and architects and builders will be at many of the homes to give advice. Viewers will be able to see how technologies such as solar, ventilation, water harvesting and recycling, shading, thermal mass (materials that absorb and release heat), glazing and window treatments are being used.

New Sustainability Database at QUT Library!

BEDP Environment Design Guide (EDG) is produced by the Australian Council of Built Environment Design Professions and indexes over 250 papers, including case studies.  24 peer-reviewed papers are added to the EDG annually, covering topics relevant to sustainability in the built environment. Existing papers are revised regularly to ensure they are up to date.

EDG provides accurate, accessible, professional literature on how to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment. EDG is a great resource for staff and students, particularly those studying or teaching architecture and landscape architecture. Interior design staff and students may also find some useful information in EDG.
